09/09/2017 -
11:00 to 13:00

Departure at 11 am from the car parking at Listasafn Sigurjón Ólafsson in Laugarnes.

Not many know that one of the most famous and controversial woman from the Icelandic Sagas, Hallgerður Langbrók, lived in the middle of Reykjavík in Laugarnes. Who was this woman, was she in reality like the stories told of her and can you actually make a bow string out of human hair? Laugarnes is also the scene of the horrible disease leprosy in Iceland, a disease when limbs could literally fall of people. Specialists in humanities from the University of Iceland guide us around the area telling participants these stories and others.

This is an ideal tour for kids interested in fun facts and stories, however, the guidance is in Icelandic.

The tour is a collaboration between the Icelandic Touring Association and the University of Iceland and combines the experience and knowledge of the tour guides with the knowledge of academics at the University of Iceland. The aim is to create interest in science and outdoor activities with this welcome alternative. The aim is to create interest in science and outdoor activities with this welcome alternative.

Participation is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
